Newport Girls Basketball

Welcome to Newport Girls Basketball and the Boosters! Our program will provide an opportunity for student athletes to enrich their high school experience through a challenging, comprehensive and professionally managed high school program. This will be accomplished by insisting on accountability, discipline and infusing energy into the program while training student athletes to succeed at a high level on and off the court.

Newport's mission is to prepare its participants to become champions on and off the court by instilling toughness and empowering them to be leaders who embody trust, compassion, selflessness, courage, and effort. Our vision is to create lifelong relationships where the past, present, and future participants are connected. Our vision is to build pride; our vision is to prepare students to be champions on and off the court; our vision is to create positive relationships.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Newport Runs on Opening Night at Bellevue

3 December 2021

Newport began its season with our JV girls leading from the 5:40 PM tipoff at Bellevue High School until the final buzzer. First quarter scoring was sparse until freshman Katelyn Phung scored her first 5 Newport High School points.   Ammana Karmali then took up the torch and figuratively torched the rest of the court with a flurry of transition layups culminating in a 14-point effort. Junior Varsity finished the game 44-27 and take a well-earned 1-0 start to the season.

Varsity Girls had their first tipoff at 7:15 PM on Wednesday night. A bout of the butterflies kept Newport’s scoreboard in check for the first quarter, giving the Wolverines a 16-10 lead after 1 quarter. The second quarter of the game had our Knights coming out with a tenacious full court pressure that Bellevue never quite solved. Coupled with freshman guard Portia Polo’s 11-point quarter, the Knights pulled ahead 28-22 by halftime, and the lead was never challenged again. Senior post Allie Harrison led all rebounders with 8 boards and junior guard Giannah Donahoe had a staggering 8 steals on the game.

Go Knights!
